Godivers Double puts Middleham Back on Track

Bishop Middleham tonight made amends for Sundays disappointment with a magnificent display against the Godivers at Trimdon Community College. The return of Phil Woods, David Boorman and the introduction of Will Hemms stiffened the batting line up and gave a much better balance to the side.

Bishop Middleham won the toss and elected to bat first on a gloriously sunny evening. The opening partnership of Hemms and Boorman started slowly scoring only six runs off the first four overs. Hemms then decided to open his shoulders and very quickly made 27 (including three fours and one six) before retiring. Boorman was joined at the crease by Phil Woods who made 22 (including two sixes) before being bowled by a quicker ball from Robson. It was good to see Woods back to some of his old form. Playing the anchor role Boorman then continued on with Dave Minns and retired with a score of 25. Minns and Harry Davison then continued before Davison was bowled by the first ball of the last over going for the big heave with a score of 15. David Hutton and Minns played the final five balls and they finished with 2 and 6 not out (averages! averages! averages!) respectively.

Bishop Middleham finished with a score of 114 for 2 off the allocated twenty overs.

Bishop Middleham then put in a nearly perfect bowling and fielding performance with every bowler either having few runs scored off them or taking wickets and the field placement and the fielding itself put further pressure on the Gidiver batsmen. Highlights of the fielding performance were Hugh Boormans caught and bowled. In which he had to dive low and forward to his right (superlatives are not enough to describe the catch) and David Boormans two wickets in his second over after being hit for a four and a six during his first.

Connelly,Minns, Wetheridge and Hemms bowled tidily keeping the runs scored down and Davison and Ball each took a wicket each at under three runs per over. Young Gareth Pete playing as a late entrant also showed good pace and delivery and finished with figures of one for 10. Finally the bowling of Phil Woods has to be mentioned, taking two wickets for seven runs off 1.4 overs. It's amazing how he can take wickets with a bowling delivery that lacks any pace or technique.

This Bishop Middleham performance was probably the best this season and they can go into their mid season break full of confidence. The difference from Sunday was that three players came to the game who were confident with the bat and this instilled belief into the team. If this team could be kept together then they would be difficult opposition for many teams.
