Abysmal
Batting Performance Gives Game on a Plate to Sedgefield Winkers
Bishop Middleham's season went into decline as they totally capitulated in this 35 over game against the Winkers at Trimdon Community College. Having only narrowly been defeated in their last game, in the last over, on this occasion they were lucky to complete 23 of the allocated 35.
Being consistent they once again lost the toss and the Winkers decided to bat. The Winkers managed a score of 159 off the 30 overs with 3 players reaching the retirement score of 30.
The Middleham bowling was of a good quality but one or two bowlers were hit for a few runs in the latter stages of their bowling stints. A new find was yet another postie Dale Anderson who bowled with pace and took his first wicket for the team. Fielding was good with special mention for Hutton, who performed bravely behind the stumps. He made some fine stops from the quicker bowlers. Stephen Ball who stopped a very quick drive being hit back to him off his own bowling (some thought it was a dropped catch (Shaw)but I could not agree to that).
Following tea Middleham went into bat, and what a sorry state of affairs this batting performance was. Davison and Boorman opened, so this tells you how much the team was missing its regular batsmen. Davison made four before trying to hit one over the tallest player on the field (Lower aka shakka - Sedgefield first team player??) and it was up to Boorman to keep the innings together., top scoring with 18 The only other player to make double figures was Shaw(11) and the innings limped along at a poor run rate with wickets being regularly lost and finally nose dived into the depths of oblivion with the last three wickets being taken for 0 runs.
From Middlehams point of view this has to have been their worst performance for many a season and the sooner a line drawn underneath this game the better.
Having said that a mention of a good batting performance from the Winkers has to be made. Unfortunately Middleham could not match it on this occasion.
