Renewed
Hope for the Season as Middleham Bounce Back

On a bright summer evening Bishop Middleham put Sunday's poor performance behind them and produced a 10 run victory over the Godivas at Darlington.
Put into bat for this 20 over match, on a synthetic surface the two openers set about a steady run rate for the first ten overs. Hugh Boorman and Ron Woods reached respective totals of 23 and 24, before losing their wickets. David Boorman continued the rate and he was aided by Stephen Ball and David Hutton in helping the score along to a respectable 97 of the allocated 20 overs. David Shaw showed a good golf swing and knocked his first ball high and mightily into the air to be caught for a hairy duck. Derek Shaw and Nigel Cooksey made 2 and 4 respectively and Harry Davison entered the fray for the last ball only, and from the non-strikers' end assisted in running two from the last ball.
The Godivas opened their innings at a very brisk pace after Hugh Boorman had decided to put on the weaker bowlers for the first few overs. This included Michael Boorman who uncharacteristically found difficulty in getting the balls he bowled to pitch on the wicket.
Following these overs the Godivas opener retired on 28. Then up stepped man of the moment Ron Woods who bowled two devastating overs to reach figures of 3 wickets for 8 runs. This on top of the 24 scored must make him man of the match. It is however quite beyond this reporter to comprehend how Woods could be so successful with the ball especially after viewing his bowling action. The only other wicket taker was David Boorman who took a very nonchalant one-handed catch off his own bowling.
The Godivas then struggled to keep up with the runs required due to some very tight bowling especially in the last 6 overs. In the final over bowled by Harry Davison they required 12 runs to win but only managed to take two and so lost the game by 10 runs.
One last mention must go to Nigel Cooksey who whilst fielding went for a ball a few yards to his left hand side and pulled a hamstring. The season just would not be the same without Nigel picking up some injury.
