Two Boorman's and a Davison go to mow a meadow

Hugh Boorman, David Boorman and Harry Davison took part in a cricket match between Sedgefield Winkers and St.Cuthbert's of Durham. Both teams were short of players and so Sedgefield enlisted Hugh Boorman whilst St.Cuthbert's enrolled the services of left handers David Boorman and Harry Davison. The game was played at Trimdon Community College on a relatively fast track. Sedgefield also called on the services of three Fir tree players to make up their team.

St. Cuthbert's were put into bat and Boorman and Davison were put down to bat at 7 and 8. The thirty over game started slowly with the St.Cuthbert team struggling to make runs in the first fifteen and losing wickets. After nearly 20 overs the score was only 49 when Davison joined Boorman at the crease. They then took the score along, despite the final ten overs being bowled by the better of the Winkers bowlers. David Boorman ended up with 11, whilst Davison, top scored with 21 (including a couple of glorious cover drives) and remained to the last ball of the innings when he was run out going for the quick single.

Other highlights of the innings including a tremendous diving catch, high to the right, by Sedgefield wicketkeeper Hugh Boorman (hope that gets me up the order). Boorman playing in the unaccustomed role of wicketkeeper played well only letting a couple escape him including one difficult catch and a stumping approximately about three seconds before the ball had got to him from the outfield. On a more serious note a rap on the fingers left one very swollen and with Hugh muttering of possible breakage.

St.Cuthbert's finished with 82 off 30 overs with Boorman and Davison scoring 32 of those runs.

When Sedgefield were put into bat the scoring rate was kept down for the first 12 overs so that Sedgefield were only just keeping up with the asking rate. This was due to some tight bowling, which included good figures from Boorman and Davison for their respective two overs (left handers of the world unite). However the score to win of 83 was just too easy and Sedgefield ran out comfortable winners reaching the target with 11 overs to spare and only losing one wicket.
