Boorman
and Davison make an impact
At
invitational game
Hugh Boorman and Harry Davison were invited to play for Fir Tree Lions against The Godivas of Darlington at North Bitchburn on the evening of Wednesday 20 May.
It was a grey evening at the Bitchburn pitch and the two players were warmly welcomed by Lions captain Harry French. The lion's captain opted to bat first and Hugh went in as opening bat with Harry Davison put in at number five. Hugh made a quick start to the game with a flourish of batting strokes including three fours quickly racing to 18 before being caught playing a drive which rose and was plucked out of the air high above the fielders head.
This 18 gave the team a good platform upon on which to build. The score ticked over and then Harry came into bat at number 5. He quickly reached a score of 24, which included 4 fours. The last four being a glorious straight drive back over the bowlers head which at one point looked as if it was going for 6. On reaching 24 Harry then went for the big heave only to be clean bowled.
The final Fir Tree score was 85 of 20 overs, a score which the team felt may have been hard to defend.
Godivas then went into bat at for the full twenty overs were pegged back by some excellent all round bowling from the Fir Tree team. Harry Davison bowled two overs for only one run but failed to get a wicket. This he puts down to at least one dropped chance from wicketkeeper Hugh Boorman. However Boorman did some sterling work behind the stumps and did actually take one catch behind the wicket.
Overall the fielding and bowling from the Fir Tree team was very tight and contained the Godivas to very few high scoring shots.
In the end Godivas were all out 14 short of the total required in the last over of their innings.
Hugh and Harry would like to thank the team for their courtesy, friendliness, encouragement and for the much appreciated drink after the game.
