Last over
victory for Midland Bank as Middleham fail to build sufficient runs.

The second game of Middleham’s season ended in defeat as they failed to amass enough runs to take the game to Midland bank whilst out in the field. The winning run was hit off the first ball of the last over but in reality the game was out of Middlehams reach well before the final over.
Highlights of the game
Middleham opened with Ron Woods and Hugh Boorman. Ron made 23 including two towering Sixes (well they would have looked towering to Hugh) before being bowled. H.Boorman made 5 but was then bowled off his toes (literally) with one that was diverted onto his middle stump. W.Hems still waiting to recapture form from the first game with the bat made 8 before being caught on the boundary. D.Minns steadied the ship with yet another 28 not out (what can I say about this man – how he always gets to bat against the worst bowlers is beyond me!!!). Before being joined at the crease by H.Davison , G.Hutchinson had come and gone for one run. Was this a sign as at the end of the game Hutchinson had also gone before the payment of fines had been received. The boys will be round if payment is not forthcoming. Apart from scoring 11 Davison’s major impact whilst batting was causing much humour back in the pavilion by falling over whilst going for a pull shot (its OK lads I’m typing this with an ice pack around the ankle!!!!).The innings ended with D.Shaw making 1, S.Ball 3 (out hitting another looping high one, but earlier he could have been run out as he reached one end whilst Hutton was looking the other way ( I’m not bitter about run outs HUTT!!!!!!) but Ball managed to regain his ground (all 22 yards of it). Wetheridge and Connolly did not bat, what entertainment we would have missed.
At the end of the innings the final score was 91 off 20 overs. Not enough when a more realistic target would have been 100-110 (well that’s what David Gower said)
Midland Bank innings
Midland bank made a good start and where always up with the run rate. The main point from the Middleham bowling was that only four bowlers kept their figures below double figures. Worth noting was Davison taking two for 5 runs, not bad for a cripple. The second with the assistance of some quick reactions from Hutton behind the stumps, who having almost spilled the ball reacted like the “cat” he is to take it at the second attempt. Other wicket takers were Minns (uprooting off stump- in his dreams!!), Hutchinson, Wetheridge and Woods (I don’t how he does it with that bowling action!!). D.Shaw bowled his two for fifteen, showing character after being hit for 12 off the first to limit the second over to just three runs. Wetheridge and Connelly bowled well but with limited success, on another day both might have had wickets.
Catches were taken by Hems (x2), Davison and Boorman. Hems took both catches running like a gazelle around the boundary in order to reach them. Davison took a low diving catch to his right whilst at square leg, but he rather spoilt his game by dropping a simpler catch later on in the innings. (I blame the deteriorating light and the speed of the ball, that’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it). Boorman taking a high one at the boundary. (?Over the boundary line after taking the catch – I think not). Captain Woods injected some humour towards the end of the game by bowling in only the way that he can. Deceiving the opposition with either the very slow ball or the wide. Talking of wides then I would like to remind Mr Hutchinson that fines are still due.
Overall a solid performance but more effort needed to reach a defendable target.
